Green laser pointer in wrong hand

From the first appearance of 5mW green laser pointer in 2000, more and more high power green laser pointers have begun to come out in the laser pointer market. The increasing popularity of the high power green laser pointer has lead to more and more reports of laser pointers being pointed at airplanes and helicopters. Certainly it will be seriously dangerous once air crash happen because of the green laser pointer in wrong hand.

Why does green laser pointer can be so dangerous? It’s quite simple that the green laser beam is quite concentrated and narrow, and the bright beam can be visible tens of kilometers. A high power green laser pointer with an output range about 20 to 30 kilometers will be a big danger once the beam is pointed into the eyes of pilots. When the beam of green laser pointer can cover 1 kilometer, the green laser pointer might be powerful enough to cause any damage or harm to objects.

Unlike red and blue laser pointer, green laser pointer is the main danger to aircraft, since green color is much more visible to human eyes than the other colors. What’s more, the medium wavelength of the green laser pointer has made it possible to have perfect beam dispersion and visibility in the night sky. The green laser pointer beam is so bright that the beam can reach object only in a few seconds. Comparing with blue, violet and yellow laser pointer, green laser pointer is certainly a cheap one. As a result, high power green laser pointer is the major danger to aircraft.

Once people are pointing a green laser pointer in the night sky, you should have a careful check if there are flying object and never try to point your laser pointer in area where air craft might appear. Pointing laser pointer at aircraft is a serious criminal offence in most of countries. Whenever pointing a laser pointer, people should pay high attention to avoid any chance of criminal.
