The “Star Wars” Misunderstanding
One clear summer night, my friends and I gathered in a quiet field to stargaze. Armed with a green laser pointer, I carefully traced the outline of the Big Dipper, its bright beam cutting through the darkness like a light saber.
Suddenly, a loud gasp broke the silence.
“IS THAT A UFO?!”
A hiker, who had been passing by, stood frozen, his eyes wide with shock. From a distance, the laser’s glowing green streak must have looked like something straight out of Star Wars—a mysterious beam descending from the heavens.
We quickly lowered the laser and explained, laughing, “No, no—it’s just a pointer for stargazing!”
Relieved (and maybe a little disappointed it wasn’t aliens), the hiker chuckled and decided to join us. As we showed him how to spot Orion’s Belt and the North Star, he admitted he’d never paid much attention to the night sky before.
“I always thought astronomy was boring,” he said, “but this laser makes it look like a sci-fi movie!”
By the end of the night, he was enthusiastically pointing out constellations himself—proving that sometimes, the best discoveries come from a simple misunderstanding and a little green light.
